HOW TO KEEP UP WITH A GROWING BUSINESS

A growing business can be both exciting and stressful – here’s how to keep on top of everything.

• Never give up! When running your own business you can constantly hit walls, but if you keep trying you will always get where you need to go.

• Keep on top of the news in your industry. I need to be across what’s happening in accessories to understand trends, what consumers want and what our competitors are doing.

• Organisation is key. This is not to say I’m 100 per cent organised, but I try to keep an up-to-date calendar. I ask my staff to CC me on everything so I’m across every aspect of the business. Then I tag and file those emails into folders in my inbox so I can make time to go through various issues all at once.

• Over-hire. Our CFO will probably baulk at this, but I like to over-hire to ensure I can deal with busy periods without putting unnecessary stress on myself or my employees. • Keep your suppliers up-to-date with the growth of your business so they can scale with you. This is one aspect of a growing business you don’t want to be caught lagging in.
