a-z of WELLENESS
The ELLE brand of wellness means being emotionally and physically robust and tackling the day (or a workout) with ferocity – all while wearing the sleekest gear. Here, the latest news from the feel-great frontlines
AIR SUPPLY
Countless studies have shown a direct link between pollution and our health, and according to the Centre for Australian Weather and Climate Research, air pollution inside can be five times worse than outside. “Allergies and asthma are on the rise and small airborne particles contribute to it,” explains Dominic Mason, the head of environmental control product development for Dyson South-east Asia, who worked on the brand’s new Pure Hot + Cool Link. While most purifiers capture mould, bacteria and odours, many struggle to get the tiny particles of dangerous chemicals, something Mason’s team wanted to fix. “The new filter has denser carbon layers for capturing gas and particles as small as 0.1 of a micron.” (To put that in perspective, a human hair is about 50 microns.)
The Pure Hot + Cool Link also pushes clean air out, instead of up, meaning the whole room gets cleaned. For a dose of artificial intelligence, advanced sensors mean the machine “sniffs” the air every second to determine quality, then turns on, off or adjusts its settings accordingly. “We’ve given the machine to allergy sufferers and they’ve all come back saying it helped them sleep, too, so you’re not going to wake up with your eyes all puffy.” With dust and dirt known causes of irritated, inflamed skin, sleeping in clean air couldn’t hurt at keeping you looking fresher for a little longer either.
