IF YOU WANT TO
FEEL REALLY ALONE…
Head to Kyoto, Japan – specifically, Tawaraya. Said to be one of the best ryokans (sort of like a Japanese B&B) in the country, each room has a private garden and onsen. But it’s the service that takes your breath away: every whim is taken care of immediately and immaculately. It’s so exclusive it doesn’t even have a website, so it’s tricky to make a booking. But it’ll be worth the international phone call to secure a room. TIP: Head over in spring (from March to May), when the cherry blossoms are at their finest.
