Brush up on the new tools

ELLE (Australia) - - Beauty Now -

The brushes-versus-fingers debate has been a longstanding one among makeup artists, but using brushes with skincare was a novelty once reserved strictly for professional treatments. Not anymore. Three new masks come with their own applicator, dialling up the efficaciousness and luxe factor of the already ritualistic moment in your regimen. “Applying your mask with a brush means less mess – you won’t waste product by getting it all over your hands,” says Sydney-based skin therapist Diandra Politano. “Plus the light massage pressure assists with lymphatic drainage.”

Kat Burki’s Restorative Dual Acid Peel refines pores and hydrates using a one-two punch of glycolic and hyaluronic acid that glides over skin with a soft bristle brush — an important step to ensure the potent actives are evenly distributed. Glamglow’s new #Glittermask Gravitymud Firming Treatment is a skin-toning product dressed in a sequinned gown (it’s begging to be ’grammed). It can be used all over, but the included brush makes zone-treating

a cinch. We suggest brushing it across areas that need a little lift (think jawline and cheeks), and topping the T-zone with the brand’s Supermud Clearing Treatment (it’s a genius oil absorber).

And if your skin is dehydrated, smother it in Chanel’s new overnight wonder, Hydra Beauty Masque De Nuit Au Camélia, which comes with an applicator (affectionately called the camellia petal) that hygienically (and hypnotically – application is oddly relaxing) disperses the creamy formula, packed with camellia concentration, zinc, copper and magnesium. It’s absorbed, plumping your skin while you snooze.

And don’t forget to keep your tool clean with antibacterial soap. “Hand wash brushes with lukewarm water, always facing the bristles down,” says Politano. “If the water is too hot and drips down the handle it may, over time, loosen the adhesive that holds the bristles. Then simply air-dry overnight.”
