YOU DON’T HAVE TO EX­CEL at maths to know healthy strands come down to a ba­sic for­mula: how of­ten you use styling tools mul­ti­plied by how hot the tool is, di­vided by the square root of pi. Or some­thing like that.

Thank­fully ghd is tak­ing the think­ing out of it with their lat­est tech­nol­ogy found in the just-launched Plat­inum+ straight­ener. The plates fea­ture a clever new in­fin­ity sen­sor, which mea­sures the tem­per­a­ture 250 times per sec­ond, en­sur­ing it re­mains at 185 de­grees Cel­sius. Ex­ten­sive re­search shows that no mat­ter your hair type or thick­ness, 185 de­grees is the sweet spot for fast smooth­ing with­out siz­zling. “You get ul­ti­mate shine and longevity, but with­out any dam­age,” says Dr Tim Moore, ghd’s vice pres­i­dent of smart de­vices.
