FOOD FOR THOUGHT
THE FOOD AND DRINK HAPPENINGS HELPING MAKE YOUR KITCHEN THE HOTTEST SPOT IN TOWN
You can still eat and drink well, even when you’re house-bound.
THE BOOK
Elevate your snack game with 50 grazing-style recipes from the kitchen of famed Parisian wine bar and eatery La Buvette, compiled in new book La Buvette: Recipes And Wine Notes From Paris.
Owner Camille Fourmont also talks wine selection and how to source covetable kitchenware, so consider it a one-stop-shop for the kind of kitchen your friends will envy when coming over is a thing again. ($42.99, Ten Speed Press; out July 7)
THE GREAT IDEA
Succumbed to baking bread during isolation, and now want to take the pursuit further? New York-based Lexie Smith of Bread On Earth is shipping sourdough starter around the world, as well as serving up inspiration for a more interesting loaf via Instagram (@bread_on_earth).
Locally, Xinyi Lim has also adopted the starter mail-out idea (@megafaunafood).
THE PODCASTS
Need to know what to do with all those damn beans? Look to some food-centric podcasts. Home Cooking is hosted by chef (and Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat
author) Samin Nosrat and Hrishikesh Hirway, while Table Manners With Jessie
Ware features the British musician and her mum chatting to guests such as the Haim sisters, Emilia Clarke and Dua Lipa (who discusses hot sauce and sushi). Closer to home, there’s Highly Enthused, which, though not exclusively about the topic, has two food-obsessed hosts: Sophie Roberts and Sophie Mccomas-williams.
THE DELIVERY
There’s no shortage of wine and spirits delivery services to keep things interesting come 5pm, but our latest favourite is The Borough Box – a curation of six natural wines picked by talented local sommeliers James Audas (formerly of Noma) and Tom Sheer, and delivered monthly for $180. theboroughbox.com.au E
