this ISSUE, IT’S all about YOU
this month’s cover and fashion story was the very last shoot we were able to complete before strict social distancing and lockdown restrictions came into effect in Australia. Our cover star, model Georgia Fowler, summed it up best when she described the images as having an escapism vibe, “which kind of makes sense at the moment”. Throughout 2020, we’ve been incredibly aware that it’s more important than ever to be able to continue to uplift, inspire and entertain our readers and followers. So this issue is dedicated to you.
While we’re not suggesting you block out the world or everything that’s been happening in it this year, we are encouraging you to take a moment for yourself. If ever there was a time to be mindful of your mental wellness and what you need to do to care for your emotional needs, it’s now. So please, dive into the pages of our cover story, shot on the South Coast of NSW (p68), and look forward to a time soon (hopefully by the time you read this) when we can pile into our cars with friends and head for the ocean. Indulge in our at-home fitness (p148) and spa guides (p144), or even get back to basics with some DIY beauty routines (p142). Shop from our winter coat special and envision wrapping yourself in one of the camel cocoons
(p25), even if it’s just for a walk to the supermarket. Join our line-up of local designers, who so dearly need our support right now, in imagining where their favourite looks might be worn and the mood sure to be conjured upon slipping into them
(p114). Yes, even face up to your finances and take back control by beginning to put a plan into place
(p48). Then learn how to cleanse your aura (p150) – whether the practice is for you or not, anything that can bring good energy into your life and home is definitely worth a second look.
As we put this issue to bed, I’m a few weeks away from welcoming a baby into this crazy, beautiful, topsy-turvy world. Looking after a little person is, in truth, a prospect I’m finding a tad overwhelming in the current climate, so making sure I’m okay first is top of mind. Whatever big life event you’re about to take on, I’d like to think you’re in the best place possible to do so as well, and if that means asking for help from a friend or health professional, then don’t hesitate. In the meantime, I know you’re in safe hands with the ELLE team, the most incredibly talented, well-informed bunch of editors who are committed to serving up the kind of words and imagery that will allow you to momentarily escape, whether that’s away from the world, or into it.
