GHOSTHUNTER

Empire (Australasia) - - ON SCREEN -

OUT NOW / RATED M / 101 MINS DIRECTOR Ben Lawrence CAST Jason King, no ghosts

FIRST, A CAVEAT: this is not about ghosts. There’s about five minutes of actual ghost-hunting in the 101-minute run-time, and at no point does Patrick Swayze sexily shape a clay pot with anyone. This documentary follows Jason King, a (mostly) sweet-natured lunk and part-time paranormal investigator, who is haunted by his own traumatic past and dysfunctional family dynamics. King and doco maker Ben Lawrence dig into King’s repressed memories of his horrifying childhood to, in King’s words, “help me move on from myself”— but the discoveries grow steadily more disturbing until they uncover a grotesque family secret that leads to a police manhunt. Not one for a first date. TK
