Benalla Rural City mayor to run as independent candidate in seat of Euroa this election
DON Firth’s independent candidacy will make the battle for the state seat of Euroa a three way tussle. Nationals’ incumbent and deputy party leader Steph Ryan is looking to retain the seat, while the Labor Party is hoping to win it with its candidate Fionna Deppeler-Morton
Previous experience in local council is something Cr Firth only sees as a benefit, saying he will be able to hit the ground running having had experience with a lot of policy and procedure.
The father of two said his experience with having kids is one of the reasons he is standing, emphasising this electorate deserves to be better represent- ed with education facilities.
“There are so many things that have been ignored and it’s time to start pressing the issues,” Cr Firth said.
He has been with Benalla Rural City council for two years and has run Benalla Electrical Contractors for 30 years. Mr Firth is planning on touring the electorate over the coming weeks.
