Electric vehicle charging site revealed at Euroa’s Shell
EUROA’S Shell Service Centre was abuzz with excitement last Wednesday, as Minister for Energy Lily D’Ambrosio officially unveiled the new ultra-rapid vehicle charging site.
The charging station will dramatically reduce charging time for drivers, capable of delivering up to 400 kilometres of range delivered in 15 minutes, being the fastest of any charger currently in Australia.
Energy company Chargefox received $1 million from the Labor Government and matched that funding to develop the site in Euroa.
With the ability to deliver a fully charged vehicle in 15 minutes, sourced 100 percent renewably, Minster D’Ambrosio said uptake of electric vehicles will help us reduce emissions and to tackle climate change.
“More Victorians will be driving electric vehicles in the future, that’s why we’re building the infrastructure to be ready to meet this demand,” she said.
It was also announced funding has been attributed to continue the electric revolution, with five new sites to be built across Victoria.
A real win for the Strathbogie Shire mayor Amanda McClaren attended the announcement and said it is super exciting to see that the shire are really leading the way in this renewable energy space.
“To be the biggest solar charging spot in Australia right now, this really puts Euroa on the map,” Cr McClaren said.
“Not only are we going to have people stop here to charge their cars but we will be highlighted as one of those key places they can stop.
“People can stop they can charge, go in and get a coffee from our local businesses and explore our region.”
Expressing the development as crucial, Cr McClaren also said Euroa will be the key spot now for people to charge heading north to Melbourne.
Victoria is leading the nation with the rollout of this technology, with its transport sector on the road to a low carbon future in line with its legislated net-zero emissions by 2050 target.
Owner of the Shell Service Centre in Euroa Michael Roth has said the edition of the new charging stations will only add to the vision of seeing this as a community centre for Euroa.
“It’s going to add more people coming into the town , so I hope all the local traders will see a benefit, whether it’s accommodation or a weekend stopover,” Mr Roth said.
