Carriage driving steeped with history
IT’S on again! The Annual Skye Park Australian Carriage Driving Classic will be held this coming weekend, Saturday November 10 and Sunday November 11 at Longwood Recreation Reserve.
Hosted by the Longwood Carriage Driving Club this annual event has been held at Longwood since 1996 and this year, despite the drought, has attracted huge entries from throughout Australia.
Longwood has long been known as the Carriage Driving Mecca of Australia and is justifiably proud of this title.
Entry on both days is entirely free to spectators and visitors will be treated to spectacular driving from a wide variety of outfits from Singles, to Pairs, to Tandems and Teams of Four - in - Hands of both horses and ponies of many breeds.
Saturday will feature the elegance and precision of the Driven Dressage on the beautiful, recently renovated Longwood Oval, together with the Obstacle (Cones) Course, a tricky course against the clock through a series of witches’ hats with balls on top.
Sunday will be the day for all the excitement and thrills of the Marathon Obstacles. Spectators can view the majority of the Obstacles from one central, easily accessible viewing point, particularly suited to young families and the elderly, and with wheel chair access.
Scrumptious catering all weekend by the ladies of the Longwood Community is always a feature of any Carriage Driving event at Longwood.
