Gazette goes close with three runners up at awards
THE Euroa Gazette has come away with a good rounded performance at the state’s industry newspaper awards held at the Rydges in Melbourne’s CBD on Friday night.
The Gazette placed runner up (under 2000 circulation) in the Overall Newspaper Excellence category at the Victorian Country Press Association (VCPA) awards.
Judge Alan Pont noted the paper’s “proven formula with eye catching front pages and pointers promoting content”.
He said highlights were the Gazette’s promotion and coverage of events such as Euroa Wool Week, Australian Show and Shine, Euroa Solos Rally, and Education Week 2018.
“Reproduction of photos was very clear, while advertising support for trades and services was solid,” Pont said.
A highly commended (first runner up) was given in the Best Advertising Feature Award for the Gazette’s “Euroa Wool Week”.
Category judge Greg Watson said “The Gazette’s very strong support of the local community is clearly evident in the 12-page feature highlighting the town’s annual show and wool week”.
“Plenty of photos engaging readers and solid advertising support from local businesses,” Watson commented.
Gazette photographer Dale Mann received a highly commended (first runner up) in the Best Sport Photo category with his image of Euroa footballer Jimmy Ivill taking a flying mark during the 2017 finals series.
The judge’s comments said the image “captures the aerial acrobatics” in what was “a strong football photo”.
