Important to preserve history

Euroa Gazette - - NEWS -

THE Euroa Historical and Genealogical Society would like to express our concern about the future of the ‘Gamble’s’ Nursery building.

This building represents the last remaining timber retail shop in Binney Street dating back to the late 1800’s.

The building, along with a number of others, has previously been recognised as having significant heritage value by the Shire of Strathbogie in a series of consultants reports some years ago.

The Euroa Historical Society has an interest in the preservation and conservation of the history of our community.

Our community stories are told through the preservation of this history.

The historical society, at our recent meeting on December 3, agreed that it was important to preserve as much of the ‘ Gamble’s’ premises as possible so that the story of our town can be told to visitors and the community at large.

We would urge the Shire of Strathbogie to take an active part in preserving and maintaining this building and other buildings of historical significance in our towns. Gaye Wallace Secretary Euroa Historical and Genealogical Society
