Page 12 The Euroa Gazette, Wednesday, December 12, 2018 Advertisement Drawcard singer Nicholas Jones will perform with fellow tenors – platinum-selling Mark Vincent and Sun Aria winner Brenton Spiteri – in a rare billing by Australian Music Events at Beechworth’s Opera in the Alps on January 19, next year. The production company, established by Graeme Wall and Margot Cory-Wall in 1995 to give voice to emerging and established performers of opera and musical theatre and provide opportunities for audiences to hear them in spectacular settings, will stage the trio as ‘The Three Tenors’ under the North East’s summer night sky. The event – one of Australia’s premier outdoor fine music presentations – takes place on Beechworth golf course in the foothills of the Victorian Alps. Jones, who describes himself on Instagram as ‘singer, dog-patter, frisbeethrower (and) occasional barista’ and was Opera Scholar of the Year in 2009, only last month completed an acclaimed performance as David in Opera Australia’s Melbourne season of Richard Wagner’s ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’. At Opera in the Alps he will sing works by Lehàr, Cordillo and De Capua before he heads to the Sydney Opera House to take to the stage as Schmidt in Opera Australia’s late summer season of Massenet’s ‘Werther’. Ahead of Opera in the Alps’ main program the audience will hear Beechworth blues and roots singer-songwriter Marisa Quigley – described by the Adelaide Fringe 2017 Review as ‘phenomenal’ – performing as Marisa Quigley and Her Sunday Best with Darren Christie. The pair will also lead Beechworth’s 60-strong Empire Pub Choir – the upshot of a reprise of a packed-house jam between choir and scholars in Beechworth in November. Gates open at 5.30pm, enabling guests to enjoy the fairway setting between extraordinary, snow-barked brittle gums. Regional produce and hand-crafted beer and wine are available, or patrons can choose delicious Premium Dining or Tapas packages, which include concert tickets, ahead of the main performance at 8.00pm.
