Charity golf day goal
THE ORGANISER of a charity golf day in Euroa is looking to raise up to $10,000 to support local mental health services for young people.
“This year we have been involved with the Happy Healthy Kids Euroa initiative which involves Euroa’s two primary schools, the secondary college, and the Euroa Kindergarten,” James Ivill, who is a founder of local mental health initiative My Future Academy.
“It allows a paediatrician to come in to those schools and learning centres and provisional psychologists to work with families and young people to work with their issues”
Partners in the initiative also include the Goulburn Murray Local Learning Employment Network and Goodstart Early Learning.
The event is hoped to be held annually and are looking for as many people across the region as possible to take part.
“Rotary did a big fundraiser lunch a few months ago and we just wanted to keep the ball rolling.” Mr Ivill said
“Anything we can put towards the initiative to keep going is welcome and this being the first event we hope all goes well, and are still looking to sell tickets for anyone interested in coming.
Mental health is a huge issue in rural communities according to Mr Ivill will hope the event will go a little way to take away its negative stigma by getting the community together and having a bit of fun.
“It’s a beautiful golf course and getting out there and gaining awareness about the issue in a positive light I think is important, spreading the good word” Mr Ivill said
The event will take place on October 11 at 8:30am for a 9am start with a breakfast on arrival at the Euroa Golf Course, a three course networking lunch and some live music from local students.
Victoria Police Detective Inspector Ken Ashworth, who has been awarded the Australian Police Medal, has served 39 years with the Victorian constabulary arresting and successfully prosecuting some of Australia’s most notorious criminals will be guest speaker at the event.
Team tickets for $400 and single tickets for $100 are available for the charity day as well as sponsorship opportunities.
