SUZUKI GSX-R1000 K3/4 KTM RC8 R

There are a fair few GSX-R1000 models that fall into the sub-£5k bracket, but we would pick the second generation. Launched in 2003, the K3/4 is often overlooked and is therefore tremendous value for money at under £3000 for a beauty. Still packing the K1’s aggressive engine, the K3 added a bit of refinement, more power, an updated chassis and radial brakes to help it stay at the top of the sportsbike tree. Although the RC8 was launched in 2008, despite their lower price tag you are better off avoiding the early bikes as not only do they have the smaller 1,148cc engine, they also suffer a few issues. In 2009 the R arrived with an 1,195cc V-twin boasting enough punch to match the Ducati 1098 and a radical look that is still fresh to this day. An interestin­g V-twin that handles well and comes with lots of nice features such as adjustabil­ity built into its chassis, the RC8 R makes a great road bike with lots of track potential. If only it won a few championsh­ips...
