ALLWYN DALTON

I OWN ONE

-

I’ve had this ZXR about eight years now but this one wasn’t my first. I bought it as I had been racing a ZXR400 and got on with it so well I thought I’d treat myself to one on the road too. I loved racing in the 400 class, it was a really competitive class when I used to race; it’s not so much now and my race bike has been parked up for a while, but my mate Dan Frear raced it at Oliver’s Mount a handful of times, before it got closed down.

The road bike was smashed up when I bought it, the front end was knackered and the forks were bent so it has taken some TLC to get it running but it’s great now. I painted it myself and it doesn’t half turn heads, especially as a few of my mates have identical ones and we quite often go for rides together.

Through the summer months we are out every week and in the thousands of miles I have done on it, it’s been really reliable. We have had cranks go on the race bike, but they are pushing out an extra 15bhp out, over the standard model so it is to be expected. I’m pretty happy with my pair of ZXRs, and I doubt I’ll ever sell them. In fact I’ve been looking at getting the 750 version too, to stand next to the 400 in my garage – that would be the dream.
