Back in April 1991 an officiallyimported NC30 would cost you £6615 for a new J-plater… In comparison Honda’s own new CBR600F-N cost £5488. Little wonder the VFR400R lasted just a year in Honda UK’s range.
Why was it so expensive? Well, it was (and still is) a baby VFR750R, so it commands baby RC30 prices: that’s why we can still find 3000 milers for £8000 and why a mate of mine was recently offered around £10,000 for his absolutely mint one, with the original ‘RC30’ paint scheme. Thankfully you can still get them for anything between £1500-£3000, depending on miles/condition. What goes pop? Well, not a lot! It’s a Honda… reported engine/crank issues only come with race-tuned engines. Like the ZXR, there are a few ex-racers around thanks to the popularity of SS400. 18in rears limit tyre choices, reg-rectifiers do go pop and fairing/bodywork is now very rare. But other than that, these are mint to own and ride…
