RIDE FOR A REASON

- When is it: June 21 Who to contact: www.thelongestdaydownchallenge.co.uk/ Email: info@thelongestdaydownchallenge.co.uk

Looking for an excuse to ride for 24-hours (or less)? We can’t find one much worthier than the annual Longest Way Down (Up) Challenge, which takes place on June 21 every year and raises precious funds for Cancer Research. The gist is pretty simple; rock up on a bike worth no more than £300 at Land’s End and ride it all the way to John O’Groats. There are only 25 places on the cards and it’ll cost you £300 (all profits gets donated to CR), which includes two lots of breakfast, your dinner on arrival in Scotland and an overnight stop in a luxury lodge up in the Highlands. And just in case you’re the type who doesn’t like the idea of being stranded on a knackered bike somewhere along the 1,000 mile rural road route, you’ll be pleased to know there’s a support vehicle that’ll pick you up should things go a bit Pete Tong. Sounds like your cup of tea? There will be no cavalcade waiting for you on arrival and you’ll probably be struggling to walk through the extreme levels of cramp you’ll experience, but it’ll be a price worth paying and a ride you’ll remember for a very long time to come. Make it happen.
