GETTING TO GRIPS WITH…

-

Each month we’re going to be spinning some laps on Dunlop’s awesome range of sportsbike tyres, while putting together a video on our YouTube channel to help you learn a circuit. This month we’ve been back to Brands Hatch, this time on the Indy circuit, where we got to grips with Dunlop’s D213 GP Pro rubber. Make sure to check out the video, but in the meantime, here’s a bit about the rubber in question… What is it?

Dunlop’s D213 GP Pro offers its users the best of both worlds… the pinnacle of performance for road legal race tyres.

Due to the new Aramid JLB and polyester ply construction the D213 GP Pro is able to control deformation that in turn provides excellent high speed and braking stability, predictable cornering behaviour and improved braking efficiency. The new profiles provide you with a larger contact patch at all lean angles that will not only reduce steering effort and improve handling but provide you with increased grip and stability. The fine-tuned Heat Control Technology controls the tyre temperature based on your needs, to provide you with wide operating windows and a consistent performance across a race stint. And finally, the new pattern will ensure faster warm-up times and optimised wear thanks to the tuned tread stiffness and enhanced groove angles.

Who’s it aimed at?

The D213 GP Pro is brilliant for sporty riders on the road but leans more heavily towards the fast trackday rider and club racer. Tyre warmers aren’t a necessity, but it’s recommended with these tyres. For dry track days, deflating the tyre will deliver predictable and tenacious handling on the limit. Back on the road, re-inflating to the manufacturer’s recommended pressures will reward the rider with class-leading levels of grip and performance.

How do we rate it?

This tyre handles predictably and it offers high levels of grip and stability; you get more feedback as you get faster. The tyre feels consistent and the grip level doesn’t drop off. The conditions weren’t great at Brands Hatch, but the tyre performed brilliantly and filled us with confidence. It’s nice to know that your pride and joy is in safe (grippy) hands.
