Driftland Ford Weekender

Driftland host their first ever Ford show, so naturally we popped along for a wee day out...

Driftland may sound like the name of an adult’s amusement park, and in a way that’s exactly what it is – a purpose-built track designed specifically to allow car fans the opportunity to get all smoky and sideways, burning up tyres, and perfecting their power-slide skills and car control in a safe environment, without the fear of a jumped-up marshal telling you to load up and get off his racetrack! Only a year ago, Lochgelly housed nothing but an oval track, but with new owners and enthusiastic staff, this busy multi-layout track with full amenities, is gaining popularity at a phenomenal rate!

Drift days are obviously the main focus here, but regular trackday style ‘grip’ events also take place, as do various car meets and shows. The aptly named Driftland decided to host a Ford Weekender, using the old oval circuit as a Ford-only show ground, and the drift track hosted the first round of the visiting Retro Drift Challenge.

Fords may have been in the minority in competition, but they didn’t go unnoticed. Especially not Ari Ross who took second place in his Mk2 Escort and won the coveted ‘Driver of the Weekend’ trophy!

The visiting clubs such as the West of Scotland RSOC, the Dedicated Drivers Club, and the Sierra Appreciation Club all brought a good selection of cars, and one was even overheard talking to the organisers about the possibilities of bringing their own event to this new spot! On top of this, with Driftland further expanding their track, this can only be the beginning of big things for this exciting new venue. Good work all round!
