FULL-ON FORD

We head to Crail Raceway to join the action at the annual Full-On Ford day

With so many drag racing venues closing down, or being hindered with strict regulations, it definitely makes sense to support the few remaining venues if we want to continue having places to thrash our fast Fords.

Crail is situated on the coast of Fife, roughly an hour north of Edinburgh through some beautiful scenery. Nice as that is, it’s not the main attraction for us. Instead, we’re more interested in the tyre smoking action on the infamous Crail Raceway quarter mile. It may not be the smoothest track or most facility-packed venue, but the back to basics old school vibe and budget prices never fail to deliver.

In the queue for the strip you’ll see all sorts. There were various new school turbo Fords mixing it with the likes of Peter Melvin’s Anglia van and even Gary Wait’s track-racing Sapphire Cosworth – there for a mix of a shake down and a bit of fun!

It’s not all track action though, there’s the awesome drift figure-of-8 track, ‘the 8val’, available for all day skids for a fiver! Not a single RWD Ford taking advantage of this though, which was a tragedy! (Note to self, get involved next year!). There’s also a vast show ground too, with a good mixture of clubs turning up with cars new and old. Top shout outs must go to Scorted for their tasty selection and Ford Mania for a seemingly infinite line up of fine Focuses and Fiestas.
