TYRES
When it comes to acceleration, spinning isn’t winning. Wheel-spinning in the first three gears might make your car feel fast, but if you had sticky tyres to put all that power to the ground you’d accelerate far faster.
A set of road legal semi-slick tyres, like Nankang’s AR-1 and Toyo’s R888R, is the best way to achieve this. The difference in grip versus good quality road tyres of the same size is really noticeable. The downside of all the grip they offer is the fact their wet-weather performance is compromised, they are louder, and they will wear out faster than normal ‘road’ tyres, so might not be suitable for everyday use. If you want a tyre that can be used all year round then choose a good quality performance tyre from a reputable manufacturer, but whatever you do, don’t choose the cheapest tyres you can find otherwise you’ll undo all your hard work elsewhere!
