Fast Ford - - Event Report -

Shaun’s no stranger to Fast Ford, having appeared in the mag a number of times over the years. His most recent appearance was in a Mk3 Fiesta; a real sleeper with standard base-model looks but a well-built 2.0-litre Zetec Turbo under the bonnet. But then he had a fling with a couple of French fancies masquerading as RS models, before finally returning to the Ford fold last year when he bought a proper Rallye Sport again, this Mk3 Focus that used to belong to fellow club member John Evans.

“John had ordered a Red Edition model so was going to trade this one back in,” recalls Shaun, “which is when I said I’d buy it off him instead.” Having owned a Mk2 Focus RS previously, Shaun is well placed to compare the models. “The Mk3 is quicker than my Mk2 was in every way,” Shaun informs us, “people slate the Mk3… but only those that haven’t driven one!”

Anyone who’s seen Shaun in the mag before will know that he’s a bit of a track aficionado; he even used his sleeper-spec Fiesta on track. So it’ll come as no surprise to learn what the future has in store for his latest RS. “Who knows, maybe I’ll take in on track,” he laughs, knowing that he was booked in to spend all morning doing charity hot laps at Castle Combe the weekend after.

We reckon that means we’ll see this RS start to sprout some more track-inspired upgrades over the winter, ready for a full season of regular hard abuse in 2019. And that’s just how it should be.
