Like many, Steve’s always lusted after a Mustang, but until Ford announced they were building a proper RHD version for the British market, he could never justify owning one. When Ford did announce the S550 was coming to the UK, Steve couldn’t wait… literally. “I couldn’t wait the 14 months they wanted for a new one, so I bought this as an ex-demo three years ago,” he smiles. Initially it was used daily, but Steve soon found himself frequentin­g those dirty websites your wife wants you stay away from. No, not porn sites, but sites like Mustang Unleashed. com – where Steve was soon convinced the GT would benefit from a few performanc­e upgrades. And boy did things soon spiral! What started with some subtle suspension tweaks and an update to the later MY18 dash display has seen the car transforme­d into something of a giant killer. Under that striped bonnet, the 5.0-litre V8 has been boosted by the addition of an Edelbrock supercharg­er kit – now giving the Mustang a massive 725bhp. “And that’s on a conservati­ve boost setting,” explains Steve, “it’ll do well over 750bhp when we tweak it.”

But when asked what it’s like to drive, we’re alarmed to hear: “I can’t really say. We only fitted it on Thursday (including some lastminute fettling to get the software working) before we set off to come here! So far, it’s been spot-on...” Blimey, talk about last minute!
