DAVID FOX S1 RS TURBO

David’s S1 RS Turbo caught our eye initially because of the BDA-style cam cover grabbing your attention under the bonnet. This is clearly no ordinary RS Turbo, but upon closer inspection you soon realise just how different it really is. That BDAstyle cam cover is actually sitting a loft a full Zetec turbo conversion, complete with huge GT3076 turbo and all other bits and pieces required to make an estimated 500bhp. “It’s not making 500bhp at the moment because it’s not fully mapped yet,” admits David, “I’m actually mapping it myself. I’ve fitted a DTA S60 ECU and am currently learning how to map it all at home. I’ll get it fine-tuned on the dyno when it’s ready, but rather than keep paying people for base maps and to get the car running every time I change something, I thought I’d have a go at it myself.” And that ‘can-do’ attitude sums up David’s approach to this build; he’s also fitted an array of custom upgrades, including squeezing in a Focus RS’s MTX75 gearbox, beefy Porsche brakes, and he’s particularly proud of the bias pedal box install too. “It’s mounted to the bulkhead like the original and not floor-mounted like many aftermarket versions, so it all looks like it’s factory but it means I can run a hydraulic clutch to work with the Focus gearbox, and have balance bias for the brakes too.” There’s a lot of ‘thinking outside the box’ that’s taken place with this project, and it’s all the better for it. What a cool car!
