CLUB PROFILE

We catch up with Ian Pullin to find out more about the Bristol RSOC.

-

When was the club first founded?

The club was founded in 1984. This was a few years after the national club, and was formed to bring like-minded RS owners together in one place in the local area – in and around Bristol and Gloucester.

How many members does the club currently have?

Currently we have around 125 active members and around 385 Facebook followers – most of our active members are part of the Facebook group. Most of our members are based around the Bristol, Somerset , Gloucestershire and Herefordshire areas, with a few coming across the Severn bridge each month to join us.

Which models does the club cater for?

The club members are mostly owners of RS models, but we do have a few in non-RS cars too. Strictly speaking we are an RS club, but for us it’s more about the community aspect than the badge on the car you drive.

What does the club offer to new members?

A friendly atmosphere that can be enjoyed by everyone. Knowledge and help is always just a quick question away too. Everyone can join in, to make the most of their club experience.

Can you describe a typical club member?

Our members have a passion for the Fords they own – whether that’s an RS or not – and are not shy to talk about the love of these to fellow members, and to offer friendly advice and any help if asked.

What shows and events does the club usually attend?

We try to attend as many of the large shows as possible, including Ford Fair and RSOC National Day.

We also co-run our own event (with our neighbours at the Swindon Group of the RSOC) at Castle Combe each year – RS Combe. We encourage all of our members to attend these bigger events where possible, but during the summer we also attend a number of smaller shows and events in our local area too.

What’s the best thing about being a member of the club?

I’d say it’s being part of the family who cherish the love of Fords. We’ve got a great appreciation for everything from the latest models through to the classics. Another great aspect to being a member is being able to take part in the many shows and events we plan during the year too.

Where do you hope to see the club in five years’ time?

Hopefully we’ll continue to steadily increase our membership numbers, and continue to build a stronger local group that caters for Ford fans in the surrounding areas. Also, just continuing doing the things we all love about our club.
