FOCUS ST ECOBLUE

Despite the recent switch to favour small-capacity petrol engines, the Mk4 Focus ST picks up where its predecessor left off – you can still buy a diesel ST today. And, like the Mk3, the latest ST diesel takes the same highly-revered platform as its petrol-powered sibling, and adds the latest 2.0-litre EcoBlue engine in place of the 2.3-litre petrol. The diesel motor serves up 187bhp and 295lb.ft, all while being able to return around 50mpg. It’s a fair chunk slower than the petrol ST, but still not bad for a car that offers the same fantastic handling, excellent build quality and impressive kit. Oh, and it’s £3000 cheaper to buy new too.
