DARREN MENZIES MK2 FOCUS RS

-

Darren’s been in the mag a few times over the years and is perhaps best known for his stunning white Mk1 Focus RS, which was a regular sight on the show scene.

Often to be found picking up silverware, we were surprised to learn Darren decided to sell the car that most recently wore a WRC Martini-style livery.

He explains, “I fancied a change and opted for a Porsche 997. I backed out at the last minute, though, and even tried buying back my Mk1 focus, unfortunately without success.”

Instead of purchasing another Mk1, Darren initially went for a Mk3 RS, but didn’t get on with the later version.

“I didn’t have it long, and swapped it for a 2010 Mk2 RS, which is more my thing. I managed to find this Frozen White example with just 78k on the clock,” he says.

Sticking with his trademark WRC theme, Darren considered a Stobart livery for the Mk2, but settled on a recreation of Carlos Sainz’s Escort WRC Repsol colours from the 1997 Monte Carlo rally. Adapted to suit the Mk2 Focus, the livery works well even with no further exterior modifications other than 19in Bola B12 rims to suit the WRC look.

As Darren hasn’t owned the car long, he hasn’t had chance to add further mods as yet, though he’s quite happy with the standard car’s performance and handling.

He says, “I may add a cage at some point, but I plan to carry out a restoration of the underside over winter.” For sure, this RS is likely to evolve over the coming years, and will be one to keep an eye on.
