Share a glass of red with Ronnie
Portugal’s chef claims a glass of red a day keeps Ronaldo at the top of his game. Bottoms up
Alex Ferguson often shared a glass of red wine with his opposite number after taking their team to the cleaners at Old Trafford.
The former Manchester United manager’s love of the red stuff appears to have rubbed off on one of his players, though his identity may prove a surprise to many.
Luis Lavrador, Portugal national team chef, has revealed that captain Cristiano Ronaldo enjoys a nice glass of red wine to wash down his nutritious evening meal.
Speaking to Business Insider, Lavrador said: “His diet is very rich in protein and he’ll drink a glass of wine a day, as well as eating many varieties of fish, fresh fruit, cereals, assorted salads and grilled meat.”
According to research, red wine could help Ronnie to gain a competitive advantage. The drink is packed full of antioxidants, including resveratrol, which lower inflammation levels in the body and improve balance.
And there’s more. Studies have shown that people who glug a couple of glasses of wine each day reduce the risk of developing heart diseases by around 30 per cent, and are less likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s.
Fergie was onto something all along.
