“I’d been at Wimbledon since I was 14 – but then everything changed. Suddenly, the club was in a terrible financial position, going into administra­tion – and about to be taken over as a franchise in Milton Keynes. The fans were turning up at the training ground with banners to protest every day.

“It was certainly an interestin­g period, and not one I’d expected to go through as a young player. It was also pretty scary: football is your life, and you don’t know the business side of things at that point.
