Vs MICK MCCARTHY

-

Saipan was a mammoth moment in Ireland’s football history. The national team had been training on the Pacific Ocean island ahead of the 2002 World Cup, but Keane’s frustrations with their preparations were simmering.

After he gave an interview to the expressing his reservations, things boiled over. Boss Mick Mccarthy called him out in front of his team- mates, and accused Keane of faking injury to avoid their World Cup play- off second leg against Iran. Then came the tirade.

“Mick, you’re a liar... you’re a f** king w** ker – I didn’t rate you as a player, I don’t rate you as a manager, and I don’t rate you as a person. You can stick your World Cup up your arse. The only reason I have dealings with you is that somehow you are the manager of my country. You can stick it up your bollocks.”

Keane was duly sent home to spend more quality time with his dog, Triggs.
