The rivalry between Keane’s United and Patrick Vieira’s Arsenal finally reached its crescendo in February 2005. Manchester United had won at Old Trafford earlier in the campaign, when Arsenal’s players felt Jose Antonio Reyes had received some tasty treatment – and told Gary Neville it was time for payback.

With the players squaring and ( eventually) lining up in the narrow Highbury tunnel, Vieira told Neville that his side wouldn’t get bullied, then squirted some water in Keane’s direction.

He took it very well, of course: held back by referee Graham Poll while bellowing, “I’ll see you out there.” United won 4- 2.
