A sorry relegation to League One in 2007- 08 meant Leicester City would reside outside of England’s two top flights for the first time ever – but they somehow did it despite having the Championship’s second- best defensive record after Crystal Palace. Martin Allen, Gary Megson and Ian Holloway all bossed matches in a pathetic season of 16 draws and 18 defeats, where 0- 0 and 0- 1 scorelines made up a third of their results. Fittingly, the Midlanders were relegated on the final day with a goalless draw at Stoke, but eight years later they were Premier League champions. Weirdos.

In 2002- 03, Team Bath became the first student side to make the FA Cup first round proper since Oxford University in 1880, after Paul Tisdale’s lads saw off Newport County 3- 0 and then Horsham in a nail- biting penalty shootout. The uni outfit required police permission to erect seating for their eventual showdown with Mansfield Town, which the Stags won 4- 2 in front of 5,469 fans. Still, beats lectures.
