Ahead of the Far East finals, 21 of Senegal’s 23- man party plied their trade in France. El Hadji Diouf and Salif Diao were already on their way to joining Liverpool, however – and soon, more of their compatriots were popular in Europe. After stunning France 1- 0 in their opening match, Senegal drew with Denmark and Uruguay, then saw off Sweden en route to the quarter- finals.
