Your St James’ Park spell ended badly after falling out with Robson – why did relations break down?

-

I was constantly having arguments with him, because I wanted to be playing every week. It was at the time when Wayne Rooney burst on the scene, so in my head it was like, ‘ If he can come in and play a lot, why can’t I?’ I wanted to go out on loan. Every time I wasn’t picked, I’d get a knife or screwdriver and bust Bobby’s tyres. One day he caught me and I said, “Yeah coach, I’ve been doing this and I’ll keep doing it until you play me or let me go out on loan.” I wanted to play for a team down the bottom of the table, so I could prove to everyone that I could score goals in the Premier League. I just wanted my career to progress, but I do regret how I left Newcastle. If I had that time again, I’d still leave, but not in the way I did.
