After leaving Pompey in 2007, you played in several different countries – which one was your favourite?

I didn’t want to leave – Harry was like a father figure and one of the best bosses I played for, but when he came back from Southampton it wasn’t the same for me. My son had recently passed away and I had an injury, so my head wasn’t in the right place. I didn’t want to play football any more, so Harry said to go abroad – while I couldn’t replace my boy, it would be a different atmosphere. I went to Olympiacos and what a ride that was. English people don’t realise how passionate Greeks are about their football, and that’s where I learned to become a champion. The fans were probably the best I ever experienced besides Pompey’s – before I even kicked a ball, the way they shouted my name made me feel so welcome.
