PLYMOUTH ARGYLE
LOWDOWN It was hard to know at first if Jephcott was out of his depth. In 2018- 19, the Aberystwyth- born poacher became the first footballer born in the 2000s to wear Argyle green, but he didn’t score in his first 10 appearances. A half- season loan at non- league Truro lit the fuse, and seven goals in 14 League Two games helped Plymouth to bounce straight back up, before he made a blistering start to life in the third tier with 16 in 22. By the start of February, summer arrival Frank Nouble had been packed off to previous club Colchester.
HIGHLIGHT A brace in a 4- 2 victory over Swindon in November led to a first Wales Under- 21 start and calls for a senior cap ahead of the Euros.
THEY SAID… “We knew he was a top finisher,” gushed Pilgrims boss Ryan Lowe in January. “We knew he had something. He’s probably the hottest property in the country right now.”
WHAT’S NEXT? After firing blanks in his last 19 appearances, his first task is to prove 2020 wasn’t simply a hot streak. Plymouth tied the 21- year- old to a new deal in June, temporarily warding off Championship suitors.
