BRISTOL CITY

- PATRICK CONNOLLY @ bristolpat

Last season was the worst for ages – dismal football and no crowds.

The big talking point among the fans is whether Nigel Pearson [ below] can turn it around. We’re starting the season with zero momentum, so we need to make quality additions but who will also fight for the shirt. This season will be different to last because despite a poor ending, we have a proper manager who knows what he’s doing.

I’ve really missed the feeling of togetherness, sharing our pain ( and occasional joy). It feels distant watching your team on TV each game when there’s no atmosphere.

I won’t be happy unless we’re thinking about looking up rather than down. We need to be focused on trying to get promoted.

Our most underrated player is Zak Vyner – this was his breakthrough year in challenging circumstances. He did pretty well at centre- back, right- back and defensive midfield, though there’s a risk his versatility could count against him. Look out for Alex Scott, a young midfielder who got a bit of game time at the end of last season. The pantomime villain will be

Peterborough’s ex- Rovers man, Jonson Clarke- Harris. Most City fans won’t mind if he’s scoring goals... just as long as it’s not against us. The one change I’d make would be having our home fans behind both goals. Ashton Gate is too nice a place for opposition players, and this has been reflected in our home record over many years.

Save the date for our first game of the season at home to Blackpool. Given our next four, it’s a must- win. The ground I’m most looking forward to visiting is Bramall Lane.

Other clubs’ fans don’t know that we once finished second in the old First Division... back in 1906- 07.

Our key player will be hopefully not keeper Daniel Bentley [ above] again. The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is that he’s our big hope. If Pearson can’t take us forward, who can?

We’ll finish 9th.
