CARDIFF CITY

- BEN JAMES @ Vftninian

Last season was disappointing. Mick Mccarthy [ below] gave us late hope, but it wasn’t to be.

The big talking point among the fans is whether we can keep Kieffer Moore. He’s our first striker to score big since Jay Bothroyd in 2010- 11.

This season will be different to last because we’ll be balancing our books with a manager who knows this division well.

I’ve really missed the gallows humour of football matches. Some of the funniest moments are had when the game is incredibly bad. Instead of going to the football last season I got more into my local non- league side. As a Cardiff ex- pat in east London, I attended plenty of Walthamstow games. I won’t be happy unless we mount a challenge for the top six. Our most underrated player is Sean Morrison. He’s transformed into a true leader and we look worse for him not being in the side.

Look out for Rubin Colwill [ above]. He got a wildcard call- up to Wales’ Euros squad and could make it into the starting XI this year. The opposition player I secretly admire is Swansea’s Connor Roberts. He’s all- action and gave us some joy at the Euros.

The pantomime villain will be Neil Warnock. We’ve not had a chance to welcome him back yet and it could be good fun.

Save the date for whenever we play Swansea. They expected to do the double over us last year, but Aden Flint put paid to that. The ground I’m most looking forward to visiting is London Road, Peterborough. It’s got a terrace – what more can you want?

Other clubs’ fans don’t know that we used to wear a brown and orange quartered kit. The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is that he deserves his chance after a miraculous run when he first came in. But there may still be question marks over the style of football… If he left, he should be replaced by Michael Appleton. We’ll finish an optimistic 6th.
