SHEFFIELD UNITED

- SAM JOSEPH @ sam__ joseph

Last season was not so much an anger- inducing relegation as it was a disappointing one. Lots of injuries, few points... and fewer fans. This season will be different to last because we’ll hopefully have a fit Jack O’connell. He’s the linchpin of our blood- and- thunder 3- 5- 2.

I’ve really missed celebrating scoring a goal without immediately pausing for a VAR check. I won’t be happy unless Slavisa Jokanovic [ below] throws his shoes into the crowd from an open- top bus parade post- promotion. Our most underrated player is Chris Basham.

Look out for three young talents who could see game time: forward Daniel Jebbison, 17, who scored against Everton last season and two 19- year- olds in midfielder Zak Brunt and defender Kyron Gordon. The opposition player I secretly admire is not much of a secret. David Brooks, come back... The pantomime villain will be Chris Wilder, after being appointed as a rival’s manager in January before his team beat us in the play- off final. The one change I’d make would be adjusting loyalty points to allow younger fans to go to away games. Save the date for … well, there’s no Sheffield derby so...

The ground I’m most looking forward to visiting is always The Den, though it might have been Brentford, had they not gone up.

Other clubs’ fans don’t know that Bramall Lane became the first floodlit football ground when it hosted an October 1878 match in front of 20,000 fans. Our key player will be John Egan [ above]. We need a leader – he’s it. The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is very positive, given he’s replaced the greatest Sheffield United manager in living memory. Jokanovic’s desire for “aggressivity” has been incredibly well received by our fans. A tried and tested winner in the Championship. If he left, he should be replaced by … Wilder? We’ll finish 1st if we have a good start. Play- offs if it’s a dodgy one.
