OXFORD UNITED

- TONY FALLOWS @ t_ manorpodcast

Last season was a good effort. After the expected poor start, getting back into the play- offs for a second year running was impressive. The big talking point among the fans is a possible takeover. Rumours of boardroom shuffles, multi- billion pound investment and, whisper it, a possible new stadium... Instead of going to the football last season I saved a lot of money! We’re all delighted it’s back, but it brought home how expensive it has become. Twenty’s plenty...

I won’t be happy unless we resolve the stadium situation. Twenty long years at the breezeblock Kassam Stadium has been long enough.

Our most underrated player is Dan Agyei. Watch out for him this season.

The opposition player I secretly admire is Wycombe’s Anthony Stewart. He was a colossus against us during the 2020 play- off final.

The pantomime villain will be Max Power, now of Wigan. His goal celebration against us playing for Sunderland last season rubbed a few people up the wrong way. The player I’d happily drive to

another club is Sam Winnall. There was loads of excitement when we signed the Barnsley marksman, but injuries have plagued his time here.

Save the date for August 7, our opening match against Cambridge. Cue people trying to suggest it’s a derby game. We’re Oxford United, not Oxford University... The best thing about matchday at Oxford is the nearby sewage works – the smell is so bad you forget the ground only has three sides.

Our key player will be Cameron Brannagan [ below], a top- quality midfielder. If he adds more goals this season, he’ll be our star man. The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is pretty positive. Successive play- off campaigns have given Karl Robinson [ above] a lot of goodwill, but there’s a slight undercurrent of frustration. If he left, he should be replaced by

John Mousinho. The new chairman of the PFA is now likely to be spotted on the touchline with Robinson. We’ll finish 6th.
