ST JOHNSTONE
LAST SEASON PREMIERSHIP 5th SCOTTISH CUP Winners LEAGUE CUP Winners TOP SCORER Stevie May ( 10)
F A n F I L E NORY SMITH @ Nory1884 The big talking point among the
fans is the two shiny trophies sitting pride of place in our boardroom. Relegation was the word on our lips at Christmas, yet we still managed to pull off an unlikely cup double. This season will be different to last
because for the first time in ages, all of the big names are back in the same league. Hopefully we’ll see an upturn in attendances and finances. Instead of going to the football
last season I saved my money. This year I’m sponsoring a player’s shirt.
I won’t be happy unless we avoid relegation. We’ve been lucky with results recently, but this is the main objective every year. Our most underrated player is
David Wotherspoon [ above]. He’s beginning to get the recognition he deserves and has played a standout part in our recent success. The opposition player I secretly
admire is Charlie Adam. A chap who appears well past his prime but has managed to somehow blag his way back into the top flight. Hats off.
Save the date for our first visit of the campaign to Dundee and Dens Park, for the now- infamous ‘ not a derby’ clash. Plenty of history here, even if the Dees don’t like to admit it. The one change I’d make would be to stop choosing replica kit suppliers which provide skin- tight strips that are entirely incompatible with your average dad bod. The ground I’m most looking
forward to visiting is Victoria Park, Dingwall. An incredible day out in general with the wonderful Mallard pub on its doorstep.
Our key player will be Jason Kerr. Our defensive linchpin and captain goes from strength to strength each year. Can we keep him this summer? The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is that he is now literally the Messiah. Callum Davidson [ below] makes this management thing look easy, while being completely humble about it. If he left, he should be replaced by
Liam Craig. Always impresses when he speaks and knows the club well.
We’ll finish top six and challenging for Europe. Maybe just the one cup. 7TH FFT VERDICT
It felt like the Saints were many supporters’ second team last year, such was the widespread admiration for Callum Davidson and his players who left it all on the pitch in winning a brilliant double. Predictably, the vultures are now circling for their heroes.
