Keane vs Juventus away, in the ’ 99 Champions League semi- finals. Man United were 2- 0 down and out of it, Keano drags us back into it with his desire, example and domination of Davids, Deschamps and Zidane. Gets booked, meaning he would miss the final, then seems to go up another level. His performance raised that of every other player.

Better performances than that for United: ’ 96 FA Cup Final was his best – and he also effectively played CB and CM at the same time against Newcastle in the league that same season. He also had some cracking games for Ireland: against Portugal and Holland in 2001 during World Cup qualifying.

Shilton in goal for England against Scotland in 1974 – Scotland won 2- 0 but without Shilton’s many brilliant saves, it would have been five or six. Best keeper I ever saw… by a mile.

Maradona vs England, 1986 World Cup. That was an example of his genius – he scored the greatest ever goal in a World Cup... and got away with the greatest ever cheat.

Dugarry: Birmingham vs Southampton, 2003. You probably had to be there…

Beckham vs Greece. Give this man a knighthood!

He was awful in that game – he took about 10 free- kicks. Teddy Sheringham wanted to take that free- kick because Beckham’ previous efforts had been so bad…

Marco van Basten against England in 1988: Holland 3 England 1. Bryan Robson equalised, but then Van Basten moved through the gears like a Rolls- Royce.

Paul ‘ God’ Mcgrath against Italy at the 1994 World Cup. Some say that Baggio is still in his back pocket!

Craig Bellamy for Blackburn vs Boro, March 2006. Rovers were down to 10 and Bellamy did stop. He scored twice. Rovers won 3- 2. not

Franck Ribery blowing past Dani Alves time and again in the famous Bayern 7 Barça 0 matchup of 2013.

N’golo Kanté… for the entirety of the 2015- 16 season.
