Last season was underwhelming. The big talking point is whether we can hang on to star forward Antoine Semenyo [ above] and our 18- year- old midfielder, Alex Scott. We’re hoping that they both stay. This season will be different because some good- quality recruitment has been done early – especially right- back Kane Wilson from Forest Green – so the squad is already better than last year’s.
I won’t be happy unless we finish in the top half, at least.
Our key player will be Semenyo, if he’s still here. He can create and score goals out of nothing. He’s irreplaceable.
Our most underrated player is Rob Atkinson, who has the capabilities to be a top ball- carrying centre- half.
The opposition player who grinds my
gears is Luton’s ex- Gashead, Tom Lockyer. We didn’t enjoy watching him celebrate at Ashton Gate last season. Fans think our ground is much better than most others in the Championship.
The active player I’d love to have back is Adam Webster, now of Brighton. He was the best centre- half we’ve had for a very long time.
The thing my club really gets right is their brilliant social media content, especially player announcement videos. Look up Wilson’s on Twitter. I’m least looking forward to playing
West Bromwich Albion. I’m expecting them to be very strong this season.
Look out for Tommy Conway. We’ve had a few youngsters break through – this pacy striker could be next in line. The opposition player I’d love here is
Lewis O’brien, superb for Huddersfield last year. He’s a Premier League player.
The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is that we’re keeping faith in Nigel Pearson [ below] despite our underwhelming season because he has a proven record in the Championship. If he left, he should be replaced by anyone but Chris Hughton. The pantomime villain will be Neil Warnock. I’m convinced he’ll reappear somewhere. He always does. The one change I’d make would be keeping our best players for an extra season. That doesn’t usually happen.
We’ll finish 5th if we keep Semenyo; 10th if we don’t.
FFT VERDICT 18TH
City can’t afford to ship 77 goals again: coup Kal Naismith must prompt re- organisation. It’s the attacking play - starring Semenyo and Andreas Weimann – that will keep Pearson’s team comfortable, if recruits Wilson and midfielder Mark Sykes dovetail as intended.
