LAST SEASON

Last season was a real rollercoaster: horrible beginning, sludgy middle, optimistic end. I’m just grateful Mick Mccarthy left when he did, otherwise it could have been so much worse.

The big talking point is our rebuild, now that a certain Wales international has moved to Los Angeles. Box- to- box midfielders Andy Rinomhota ( Reading) and Ebou Adams ( Forest Green) are among the plentiful new additions. This season will be different because we’ve had a clear- out. Some of the underperformers and deadwood are gone, and we’re building a new team.

Our key player will be whoever grasps that mantle. Joe Ralls [ above] has been part of the first team for a decade.

I won’t be happy unless we show some commitment. The team went through the motions at times last term, and the fans just want to see desire.

Our most underrated player is Ryan Wintle [ below]. Every week people say it, so I’ll go with the consensus.

The active player I’d love to have back is Aaron Ramsey. Now there’s a rumour. And he’s pretty good…

Fans think our owner is a bit of a Bond villain. But it’s hard to know what even we think of Vincent Tan, as we don’t see him much any more. I’m least looking forward to playing

Bristol City and Swansea. We didn’t really show up in the derby games last season and manager Steve Morison needs to change that.

Look out for winger Ollie Tanner – we’ve just signed him from Lewes in the Isthmian League and he almost went to Tottenham in January. The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is good. We’re giving Morison a chance and he deserves it. He steadied the ship and is now signing astutely. If he left, he should be replaced by

Nathan Jones – a Cardiff fan from the Rhondda doing wonders with Luton. The pantomime villain will be Oli Mcburnie, if he ever gets a game for Sheffield United again. The one change I’d make would be increasing the amount of engagement with fans. It sometimes feels as if it’s ‘ us and them’, with a widening gap. We’ll finish anywhere above the drop zone. That will do.

FFT VERDICT 19TH

No Gareth Bale, then, but bringing in nine new faces in June means Morison can get his new- look team ready early. Adams and left- back Jamilu Collins look the pick of the bunch; any progress, however, may well be restricted by inexperience on the pitch and in the dugout.
