LAST SEASON

CHAMPIONSHIP 3rd FA CUP Fifth Round LEAGUE CUP Second Round TOP SCORER Danny Ward ( 14)

FAN FILE

Last season was a massive surprise after two seasons of struggle since being relegated in 2019. This season will be different because other teams now appreciate how we play and what our strengths are.

Our key player will be Lee Nicholls [ below]. A solid, dependable keeper is key to any team’s ambitions and he was superb last season. It’ll also be interesting to see how quickly new defender Will Boyle [ above] settles.

I won’t be happy unless Leeds get relegated – then, I hope, we can take their place in the Premier League.

Our most underrated player is Tom Lees, who flourished to become one of the first names on the team- sheet.

The opposition player who grinds my

gears is Alex Pritchard. In the Premier League he pocketed a fortune in wages from us while producing diddly squat. Let’s see how he fares with Sunderland. Fans think our ground is due a lick of paint and a spruce- up. The active player I’d love to have back is Aaron Mooy. He’d add the guile and ingenuity that we lack.

The thing my club really gets right is £ 299 season tickets. Cheap, frankly.

Fans think our owner is a lucky man who received a lot of his investment back when he sold the club due to illness. Now Dean Hoyle has returned, his coffers are fuller and hopefully he has renewed vigour to move the club forward within our means. I’m least looking forward to playing

Norwich – in recent times, they’ve been too good for the Championship. The opposition player I’d love here is

Bristol City’s Andreas Weimann. He provides goals and assists, and would fit well into Carlos Corberan’s style. The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is that he can do no wrong, having turned the squad around and got players onside.

The player I’d happily drive to another club is Josh Koroma: poor last season, but swaggered about with the impression he was the main man.

The pantomime villain will be

Jonathan Hogg, the midfield spoiler who ensures all of his opponents have to protect their Achilles and calves.

We’ll finish in the play- off spots, with another visit to Wembley.

FFT VERDICT 11TH

Town’s defensive improvement was paramount to their rise from 20th in 2020- 21 to third last term; Tom Lees and Matty Pearson defied the doubters while Lewis O’brien’s energy was infectious. Another challenge is a big ask, though, with the futures of key players in doubt.
