Last season was pretty horrible, but a learning curve for our young squad. So many last- minute defeats, so many painful moments, but we somehow managed to stay up with 40 points.

The big talking point is how Scott Brown [ above] will fare in his maiden season as a manager. It’s going to be an interesting ride. This season will be different because we’ve got a bigger budget and are now out of a transfer embargo. I’m least looking forward to playing Burton. We always seem to face them.

Our most underrated player is teen talent Cian Hayes. He’s improved a lot from last term and recorded the most dribbles per game, which highlights his intent to get at players.

Our key player will be Paddy Lane [ below]. I think he’ll grow now he’s got a full season under his belt, a new deal and his first international appearances for Northern Ireland. But he has to play in his natural position on the left.

Look out for midfielder Barry Baggley, who came through towards the end of last season and looked very promising.

The opposition player who grinds my gears is Joe Jacobson. He’s so good at what he does and you always know he’s capable of something special.

Fans think our ground is suitable for us. It’s not pretty on the eye but is our home and we love it. Fans think our owner is unbelievable. Andy Pilley is a true gent who looks out for every single fan. I wouldn’t change him for the world. The opposition player I’d love here is

Sheffield Wednesday’s Lee Gregory – a natural striker at this level.

The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is that we’re excited to see how he’ll do. We don’t know too much about Brown as a coach, but as a player he was a born winner who was as passionate as the fans. If he can translate that into his coaching methods, we’ll be just fine. If he left, he should be replaced by

Dave Artell. He has a history of working with young players and selling them on for massive amounts. The pantomime villain will be Joey Barton, as he faces Fleetwood for the first time since leaving 18 months ago. We’ll finish 17th.

FFT VERDICT

22nd

Brown’s reputation is no guarantee of managerial success, and the fiery Scot inherits some exuberant talents and seasoned pros but few peak- age performers. Josh Vela, Brendan Wiredu and other arrivals need to have an impact, because 40 points can’t secure safety again.
