Last season was disappointing. We started well and finished up with the second- best defensive record in the division, but our lack of goals cost us.
The big talking point is a potential move to a site at the former Bidston Dock. Opinion is split. Modernising is necessary to safeguard the club’s future but leaving Prenton Park after 110 years would be gut- wrenching, especially if we construct one of those rubbish identikit stadiums.
Our key player will be forward Kane Hemmings [ below]. He arrived from Burton in January and ended 2021- 22 with the most goals and assists for us.
Our most underrated player is Tom Davies. He’s a warrior, a leader and a consistent performer at centre- half. The thing my club really gets right is our recruitment model since James Vaughan came in as sporting director, with an emphasis on signing younger players who have sell- on potential.
Fans think our owner seems to have the club’s best interests at heart and wouldn’t do anything to risk our future. Look out for Reece Mcalear, joining from Norwich after an impressive loan with Inverness. We’ve been crying out for a creative, goalscoring midfielder. The opposition player I’d love here is
Tom Lowery, who would be a great addition to the centre of our midfield, but he’s destined for a higher level. The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is good, if mixed: he still has the backing of most, but there is some clamour for him to take the handbrake off and show more attacking intent. The pantomime villain will be EFL chairman Rick Parry. Why are the likes of Chris Kirchner and Laurence Bassini – previously banned for three years – able to have a go at running clubs or stringing them along in takeover bids? The one change I’d make would be to reduce ticket prices and get a good ticketing system in place. Charging £ 25 on the day for fourth- tier football, and not making it possible to pay on the turnstiles, puts off casual and floating fans or those who want to attend a game at random, and at our level we can’t afford for this to happen.
We’ll finish 7th, before losing in the play- off semi- finals.
FFT VERDICT

The average age of the eight players who left Prenton Park this summer was 33. The average age of the first six to come in is 21. It gives Rovers a more exuberant look; balancing that with the nous of Hemmings, Davies and Kieron Morris will keep them in the mix.
