Last season was absolutely abysmal. After a bright start, the club couldn’t find any momentum after an early exit from the FA Cup, leading to relegation.

The big talking point is getting back on track and making the product on the pitch enjoyable again. This season will be different because it can’t get any worse! At least we hope it can’t. New manager Johnnie Jackson seems shrewd, so let’s see where we are after 15 games.

The fans’ opinion of the gaffer is that he’s making a good impression. He’ll need time to adjust to this level, as will the rest of the staff.

Look out for Morgan Williams. He represented Wales’ U18s this summer and possesses all of the key elements to make a claim for a first- team place.

Our most underrated player is Ethan Chislett [ below]. He always gives his all when he comes off the bench and may get some more starts now that we’ve dropped a division. Fans think our ground is absolutely amazing, and why wouldn’t they, after helping to achieve the dream return? We just need more wins to enjoy there. The active player I’d love to have back is Lyle Taylor: a proven goalscorer who knows how to wind up opponents.

The thing my club really gets right is reforming links within the community after so long away from our roots. I’m least looking forward to playing

Crawley. There’s still a bit of history from our non- league days. The opposition player I’d love here is

Dominic Telford, top scorer in League Two last term with a mid- table team. It’s a shame he’s joined Crawley, as he could have been just what we need to help us in our rebuild. The pantomime villain will be

Stevenage boss Steve Evans – drama is always guaranteed with him around. The one change I’d make would be to improve the club’s communications, given how toxic things got at times last season. We need to right the wrongs of 12 to 18 months in that area.

I won’t be happy unless the squad shows a much better attitude.

We’ll finish comfortably mid- table, maybe with a run at the play- offs. Any more would be a welcome bonus.

Dismal game management was Wimbledon’s undoing in 2021- 22, so defensive leader Alex Pearce – down at this level for the first time, aged 33 – is a canny coup. Jackson has attackers who could light up League Two; his first task, however, is to end a 28- game winless run...
